On Wednesday 10th February a group of Kempsey community support services and local health providers gathered at 53 Tozer Street to hear about a new accommodation service being offered by Community Gateway.
The site formerly known as the “Judith Evill Court Aged Units” was renamed “Gateway Apartments” which is more aligned with the intended purpose of the property – to provide the community with affordable housing options along with a fully accessible 3 bedroom respite unit offering 24 hour care.
Welcome to Country was performed by Aunty Mary-Lou Buck from the local Dunghutti nation, along with CEO Craig Thomson and Community Gateway Chairperson Jan Wetherall, who informed attendees about the history of the property and Community Gateway’s response to the urgent need for versatile local accommodation and flexible respite services.
The group joined together for a light morning tea and inspected the unit. Community Gateway staff and Board members were thrilled by the local response.
