NDIS

What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to provide those with disabilities with information and access to services including doctors, support groups, sporting clubs, employment, libraries and schools. With around 4.3 million Australians diagnosed with some level of permanent or significant disability, the NDIS provides more than 22 billion dollars in funding each year.

The NDIS provides support, services and assistance that aims to help individuals in their daily lives. Early intervention is also a key part of the process, in an effort to reduce the impacts of an individual’s disability and to build long-term skills, confidence and independence. The NDIS operates in varying capacities across the different States and Territories, with the collective aim to help people get the support they need to reach their goals.

NDIS FAQ:

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and is designed to support people under the age of 65 with a disability to get the care, support and assistance they require. It is specifically aimed at individuals with a permanent or significant disability that impacts their ability to participate in everyday activities. If approved, the NDIS will provide funding to help you pay for the support services you need to live a full life.

What does the NDIS cover?

NDIS funding covers a broad range of support services from employment to early intervention, accommodation, activities and more. Each person is assessed on an individual basis, to work out what support is needed to achieve their goals. You have the ability to choose when and where you receive support and which disability service providers you work with.

What disabilities does the NDIS cover?

The NDIS deems the term ‘disability,’ as a reduction in, or loss of an ability to perform an activity due to an impairment either physical or cognitive. Impairment refers to a loss of, or damage to a physical, mental or sensory function.
